Even though it’s just now November, and April 15th doesn’t even seem to be on the horizon. There are a few things you can start doing now to help relieve anxiety and stress when tax season does finally rear its ugly head.

  1. Save each tax document that comes to you. Having a safe and secure place to keep all the documents will save you a lot of time and stress when it comes time to use them.
  2. Decide how you are going to file. Are you going to use a firm, a do it yourself software program or do it manually? This also coincides with the first step because you need to keep all of your documents organized and ready to go to your preparer or filed away for yourself.
  3. Think about any changes that may have changed in your filing status. Obviously there will be significant changes if you got married, opened a business or had a child. All of these will affect your tax forms and in some cases the forms of others so being prepared for them is in your best interest.
  4. Be prepared to file an extension. Sometimes the steps above may end up being more complicated or time consuming than you thought. So, considering an extension may be necessary.

Tax season can be a headache as it is, so taking some of these steps will only help make it easier and less stressful. At KLP we are always ready to answer any questions you might have about your taxes. Make sure to leave a comment below or visit our website for more information.
